The van segment has been a quiet place at GM for many years now, with the venerable Express/Savanna full-size vans soldiering on with only the smallest of updates.

That all changed Tuesday as GM announced its partnership with Nissan in producing the Chevrolet City Express – a small, economical van targeted at fleets and tradesmen. Basically, it’s a rebadged Nissan NV200.

The City Express will hit the market in Fall 2014 and will be the first major change in the General’s van stable since the Chevy Astro retired in 2005.

Chevrolet will likely keep the NV200’s 2.0-liter I-4 that makes 131 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque that’s backed by a CVT transmission. That setup gets an EPA-rated 24 mpg combined.

Pricing on the City Express hasn’t been released yet, but the NV200 starts at $19,990.
